Abby's 40th Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog and to the Abby's Over The Hill Blog Hop.

We are celebrating my BFF and comadrita Abby's 40th Birthday.
Hopefully you just arrived from Liz's blog, if not please start at the beginning with Candace.

I created these tags to post on her blog...

Tags | DEE stamps, dies, Stickles and glass beads

This is what they look like on a gift.

Some of the tags' background were stamped with the Notas a la Antigua stamp (music).
I made lots of them...

--------------------

...and I created this album ... a labor of love (lots of detail and lots of new techniques for me) so that she can document her oh so super busy December.  If she does not want to document it daily she can at least document special events such as my goddaughter recital, her oldest son's first time playing soccer, her other two son's achievements in sports, traveling to Mexico, Christmas, turning the BIG 40!!!  LOL and/or a scrap event she is holding this month.

Cover | I had already shared on FB | DEE stamps, Mod Podge, dies, Stickles, acrylic paint, washi tape ribbon, Glossy Accents, white glitter paper (some painted in aqua) and the Simple Stories album in aqua and kraft.

Here you can see all the sparkle

Intro or title page | Vellum with silver stars, silver glitter paper and die.

First Divider | 6 DEE stamp sets, acrylic paints, flexible modeling paste, stencil, color shine, Silhouette files, wooden house, washi tape, stamp roller...
This page looks busy with ballet, sports, baking, home.... but that is exactly her life! busy!

This is the first time I create something with modeling paste/stencil

First Photo Page/Back of First Divider | Paste, acrylic paint, dies; DEE stamps, Copics, glitter pen, PL card stamped (Mi Favorita and Fecha).

First Writing Page | Die, washi tape

Second Divider | DEE stamp, dies, Mod Podge, TH distress inks

I tried to keep everything in the Aqua/Red/White palette, but somehow the distress inks turned greenish after adding the Mod Podge.

Second Photo Page/Back of second divider | Acrylic paint, dies, MME embellishments, sequins, Glossy Accents.

Second Writing Page | Washi tape and MME embellishments.

Third Divider Page | Several dies, vellum, washi tape.

Third Photo Page/Back of third divider page | Dies, Echo Park embellishments/stickers.

Third Writing Page and Other | Lots of dies, glassine bag, paper clips etc.
I stamped the sentiment with Versamark and heat embossed.  She can use this in on the the protector's 4x4 pockets or adhere it to one of the note pages.

For this section I decided to cut up dies and include bits and pieces so that she can decorate herself.  I wanted to continue adding more stamping but Hey!! she is DEE's owner and she can choose which stamps she uses as she documents her December!

Abby can use the first section to either document December 1-23 or all those eventful moments of her life that include my goddaughter's recital, her son's sports events, all the baking she did and several celebrations/parties she attended.  She can add photo protectors, more writing pages or even additional dividers.
The second section is intended to document Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
The third section I am sure will be filled up to the rim with lots of photos from her birthday celebration and the Scrap event she is holding in Mexico.

Happy Birthday Comadrita!!  Love Ya!!

NEXT is Annie

Blog Hop Lanzamiento Diciembre | DEE

Lograron visitar a todas mis compañeras?

I Love Lucy Blog Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to the:

If you came from my BFF-I-Love-all-things-Lucy-I-collect-and-have-all-her-barbies comadrita! then you are headed in the right direction, if not, make sure not to miss the starting point with Abby
We are SO EXCITED to bring to you this awesome blog hop!
Our dear talented Ann (SVG Cutting Files) created the most amazing svgs for our blog hop!
Abby started this blog hop a few years back. This is actually the 2nd I Lucy Blog Hop,
why this hop? Well, it's plain and simple......
We are LOVING FANS of I Love Lucy!

And for me it has a special meaning because I grew up being able to only watch English speaking TV while living in México.  The only channel in Spanish at the time until Siempre En Domingo was televised in the USA did not come on till the late afternoon and most shows were documentaries or Novelas (Soaps).  The shows I watched in English include I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Bonanza, Combat... etc. And even thou I did  not speak English, I understood every word!!

I attended most of my elementary school years in Tijuana (combination San Diego back and forth) where it is a tradition to perform a dance to celebrate Mother's Day on May 10th or there about.
I was able to perform during 1st (La danza de los viejitos); 2nd (El Can Can); 6th (a graduation Waltz I don't remember the name of it) and during 3rd grade which I don't remember the name of the dance either.  All I know is that when I was invited to this hop, I immediately remember having the picture you will see below and asked Annie (Ann) if she could please create a SVG of Lucy imitating Carmen Miranda performing Chiquita Banana. I think she did an awesome job!  Thanks Annie!!

I believe this is the first of my childhood pictures that I scrap and this image is just perfect for it.

My dress is white, navy blue and red but while selecting the paper, the color orange just looked better for the look I was trying to accomplish and that is to keep my photo as the main focus.
I used a combination of Basic Grey, Echo Park and Simple Stories pattern papers.
I spritzed some color shine in peach by Heidi Swapp and used distress inks by TH.

Below you can see the original photo.  Amazing how I took a picture of the picture with the iPad and it came out much better!  I did not have to scan!  All I did is crop it to get a closer look.

I was not able to capture the shine on the fruit on Lucy's head piece but I used Smooch paints in Siren, Sundance, Lustrous Lime, Plum Twist and Pumpkin colors.  Looks much better in person.
For her dress I used the newspaper PP and spritzed it with Color Shine in Tinsel and distress ink.
On her shoes, earrings and belt I rubbed with my fingers Viva Inka in Green and Steel Blue.  Yeap, I was playing with paints!

This is the PageMaps sketch I used as an inspiration for my layout.

Día De Los Muertos Hop

Welcome to my blog and to the 4th annual Día De Los Muertos Blog Hop!
Bienvenidas a mi blog y a el hop de Día De Los Muertos!!

Hopefully you just arrived from my BFF Abby's blog if not, please start at the beginning with my comadrita Abby.

Although celebrated in many cultures, Día de los Muertos, is an important Mexican holiday honoring deceased loved ones.  I am sure you will be reading about the celebration on all the other blogs, so today I will share about one traditional Día De Los Muertos celebration staple, La Catrina.

La Catrina was first illustrated by famous Mexican print-maker, cartoon illustrator and lithographer Jose Guadalupe Posada in the early 1900's.  He named her La Calavera Garbancera. This was Posada's way to ridicule those Mexicans that he felt where ashamed of their indigenous background by embracing the Europeans way of dressing and using too much make-up to make themselves look whiter.  In 1948, Diego Rivera painted La Garbancera with added clothing or dressed her up and named her "La Catrina."  It was Diego who made her an iconic Mexican Día De Los Muertos symbol.

Catrin(a) is slang for well dressed or elegant and it refers to rich people.

So here's my Catrina.
This beauty was illustrated by Lizeth Grajeda and it is sold by Dilo En Español.

I crated this 3x4 card to use on my Project Life/Life Documented album this November 2nd.  I plan to attend a Día De Los Muertos event and it will be just perfect to decorate and document on my album.

I embossed her and colored her using water paper, embossing powder, Tim Holtz distress markers and Ranger Perfect Pearls mists.

And this is another Catrina I created using the same technique above.  It is meant to be used on a card for a birthday gift.  I have a friend who is not Hispanic that happens to know all about the celebration and her birthday is November 2nd!  I know she will love when I finish it and give it to her, hopefully tomorrow.  Her favorite colors are yellow and blue.

What you see behind is a scrapbook layout I created to journal my visit to Disneyland this past Saturday.

Here is my layout.

I colored "Mary La Catrina" using Copic markers on glittered white paper. I stamped her using Brillance ink, it stamped much better then Memento ink on the glittered paper.

I stamped the sentiments included on the Mary La Catrina stamp set in black ink but decided to go over it with a gold pen.

The flowers cut with a die from MCT are my cartoon version of the traditional Día De Los Muertos flowers = marigold | cempazuchitl.  Used gold dew drops in the centers.

I created the Papel Picado by cutting pieces from a lace border from Basic Grey.  The string is this gold glitter yarn that already has sequin in it.

I meant to replace the illustrated feathers on Mary La Catrina's hat with real feathers but decided to just add to the background.

The layout sketch is from the Silhouette online store by Lori Whitlock
I will be creating the second page to match and document tomorrow's festivities.

I leave you with a picture of another favorite (tradition) on this day...  pan de muerto.
It is nice to find this in the United States.  When I lived in San Diego it was easy to cross the border and go get some items not available here, but it is nice to find without having to do the drive ... or the long wait at the border!
